Exchange Neckarsteinach – Molins de Rei

As part of the Comeniusproject „Let me be your guide!“ 24 Spanish students and their teachers Cristina Vives Diaz, Carmen Mas and Carmen Querol visited Freiherr-vom-Stein Schule in Neckarsteinach.

Most important aim of the visit was getting to know each other, to make future communication easier and faster.
The 10 days of the exchange the Spanish students stayed in host families. Many things were new and different. The very first morning the Spanish realised that Germans have to get up “in the middle of the night” as school starts at 7.30 a.m. What a bad experience!

There was not only school on the schedule but there were also many interesting trips and excursions. The students visited the mayor of Neckarsteinach who told them that there is only one Neckarsteinach in the world which is in the centre of Europe situated at one of the most important Historic routes down the Rhine and Rhone valleys to the Meditarranean Sea. So the students got a profound insight in European history from the Romans to the Medieval Time to today! More historic detail they got to know in Heidelberg Palace.

One day the Spanish students presented parts from their guides to show what they were working on. This was very interesting to see for the Germans. The students then told each other about the development of their guides and exchanged about the content of it.

One trip took the group to Natzweiler-Struthof in French Alsace to a concentration camp from Nazi time … and into the snow! German and Spanish students got an impression of the cruelties of our history and were deeply moved.
On the journey back to Neckarsteinach it was getting hot on the bus. Spanish and German students got closer by singing and dancing! The ice was definitely broken!

On Saturday and Sunday there was time for private meetings and events. On Saturday evening we had the chance to listens to a fantastic concert of the school choir.
The weather wasn’t good with us, most of the time it was rainy, cold, grey, even snowy.
But – at last – the weather changed and proved that even here in Germany we sometimes have sunshine and blue sky.
On Tuesday evening all families came to the farewell party in school. With a fantastic buffet, a lot of music and even more talking the exchange came to its ending. All students had a lot of positive experiences and found new friends – so it wasn’t astonishing that many tears were running when it was time to say good-bye. It was wonderful to have you here!

Time ran away and that’s a pity. On the other hand – from now on we are looking forward to seeing you again in October!
